President Sirleaf saves the day - Jul 5, 2008


A humanitarian offer by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at the just ended African Union summit in Egypt has been revealed.

According to BBC Reporter Elizabeth Blunt, she was rescued from hunger by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, when a sandwich intended for the Liberian Leader was offered her.

Madam Blunt confirmed in her report Friday that the President did not mind when she made the offer.

She noted that getting food at the meeting was difficult, a situation she described as a great temptation at the conference.

In her report, the BBC Reporter says, due to the difficult food situation at the conference, only one small bottle of mineral water and a parcel of sandwiches were on the table in the Presidential meeting room.
